Engine fitting instructions

1- INTRODUCTION

We are pleased that you have chosen a GPA replacement part. The quality of our product and the quality of the assembly determine the degree of customer satisfaction. Please take a moment to read the general instructions supplied with our products. This may save you valuable time later on.

2- GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS

Make sure that the product delivered is the correct model. If you check it before you start installing it, you could save yourself a lot of trouble later on.

Note: an engine may be delivered with peripheral components left free of charge (turbo, injectors, thermostat, etc.), so they are not guaranteed. The warranty only applies to the engine without the accessory peripherals.

Specific warranty conditions for used engines

1- CONTRACTUAL WARRANTY FOR USED PARTS

Please refer to article 11 of our general terms and conditions of sale on the back of your invoice or on our website at www.gpa26.com/cgv.

2. SUBJECT OF THE WARRANTY

The warranty applies to the bare engine. Peripheral parts (turbo, injection pump, injectors, etc.) are left free of charge and are therefore not covered by the warranty.

3. ACCESSORIES THAT MUST BE REPLACED

Before fitting, the purchaser must check that the cooling, lubrication, fuel and air systems are working properly.

The following accessories must be replaced by new ones:

- Timing kit (belt(s) and roller(s))

- Water pump

- Thermostat

- Accessory belt(s)

- Oil, air and fuel filters

- Crankshaft and camshaft seals

- Spark or glow plugs

- Coolant and oil in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations

In the absence of documentary evidence of the purchase and/or replacement of these items, the warranty will not be valid. Any clear evidence or expert report showing that one of these components has not been replaced before the engine is started will immediately invalidate the warranty.

4. CYLINDER HEAD GASKET

The cylinder head gasket is guaranteed for 1 month or 4000 kilometres following installation of the engine, whichever comes first, supported by the installation invoice. In the absence of supporting documentation, the cylinder head gasket is guaranteed for 15 days from the date of purchase of the engine.

5. AGGRAVATION OF DAMAGE

Any additional deterioration caused by a worsening of the damage due to the fault or negligence of the user of the vehicle (failure to stop the vehicle immediately after a warning has been triggered, or continued use of the vehicle despite perceptible external signs of incipient engine damage such as an abnormal operating noise or a dashboard indicator displaying abnormal data, for example) may invalidate the guarantee. A car expert may be appointed by GPA in order to determine the cause of the mechanical breakdown that has occurred and any aggravation caused by the Customer.

6. EXCLUSIONS AND FORFEITURE

The Customer will be deprived of his right to this guarantee and will not be able to claim any cover in the following cases:

- In the event of a false declaration, in particular an inaccurate mileage of the vehicle at the time of purchase of the guaranteed part or attempted fraud concerning the declared mechanical breakdown, concerning the conditions to be met in order to benefit from the contractual guarantee or concerning the nature or coverage of the guaranteed damage.

- Installation of the engine on a vehicle that does not comply with the original specifications or defective condition or non-conformity with the original specifications of the mechanical components connected to it.

- Failure to assemble or adjust the engine if this is required.

- Extreme or abusive use, particularly in the context of any type of motor racing activity.

- Maintenance that does not comply with the manufacturer's standards, particularly with regard to the frequency of checks, oil changes and lubricant standards to be respected.

Motor assembly instructions

1. GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS

WARNING: In order to avoid damage to the used motor, it is imperative and compulsory to remedy the problems that have occurred on the defective motor before reassembling the new motor and installing the new parts required for correct assembly. Failure to do so will invalidate the warranty.

CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS

We strongly recommend that you replace the connecting rod bearings and oil pump on Renault engines known to be fragile: types K9K (1.5 dCi), F9Q (1.9 dCi) and G9T (2.2 dCi) and type K4M petrol engines.

PLUGS

Most openings in the engine are fitted with a plug. These must be removed before fitting the engine to prevent them from getting inside the engine.

FASTENERS

Ensure that bolts and nuts are tightened to the recommended torque. Some cannot be reused. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

ACCESSORY PULLEY

The pulley must be fitted with great care. Take care not to push back the key (if present). The central screw must be tightened to the recommended torque using a torque spanner and should be replaced by a new one if necessary. If the actuator is fitted with a damper pulley, check its condition and replace it with a new one if necessary.

2. COOLING SYSTEM

RADIATOR

It is essential to check that the radiator is in good condition and that it is not partially or completely blocked; if the engine is changed because of a faulty cylinder head gasket, the radiator must be replaced.

PERIPHERALS

Check that the fan, sensors and expansion tank are in good working order and in good condition. If you have to replace them, use new hose clips to prevent leaks.

COOLANT

Never fill the expansion tank with water; always use coolant. The cooling system must be bled, carefully following the manufacturer's instructions.

WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT

The water pump and thermostat must be replaced by new ones. Failure to do so will invalidate the warranty.

3. FUEL SYSTEM

A malfunctioning fuel system will have negative effects on the engine.

A mixture that is too rich will not only cause excessive fuel consumption but will also lead to abnormal wear of the cylinders and piston rings. A mixture that is too lean will cause overheating.

AIR FILTER

The air filter must be replaced by a new one.

A dirty or clogged air filter can lead to increased fuel consumption and possible engine damage. Failure to replace the air filter will invalidate the warranty.

INTAKE DUCT

Check that there are no foreign bodies in the intake ducts. Remember to systematically check the condition of the air exchanger if the vehicle is fitted with one.

FUEL FILTER

The fuel filter must be replaced by a new one. The slightest impurity can damage the injection pump or injectors. A clogged filter will cause a lack of pressure in the fuel supply (petrol injection system), resulting in a leaner mixture and overheating that could damage the pistons. Failure to replace the fuel filter will invalidate the warranty.

4. LUBRICATION SYSTEM

OIL FILTER

The oil filter must be replaced by a new one. Failure to replace the oil filter will invalidate the warranty.

OIL

The oil must be replaced in the quantities specified by the manufacturer. The oil used must comply with the standards recommended by the manufacturer. If it does not, the warranty will not be valid.

5. BELT DRIVE

TIMING KIT

The timing kit (belt(s) and pulleys) must be replaced by a new one and fitted in strict accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Failure to do so will invalidate the warranty.

ACCESSORY BELTS AND PULLEYS

The accessory belt circuit must be checked; the belt(s), tensioning and winding rollers and dumper pulley must be checked and replaced with new ones if necessary.

6. IGNITION OR GLOW SYSTEM

Spark plugs and glow plugs must be replaced by new ones. Failure to do so will invalidate the warranty.

INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE STARTING UP

Before starting the engine, after installation, check :

- the oil level is correct

- nuts and bolts are correctly tightened using a torque spanner

- the belt is correctly tensioned

- that all air has been expelled from the cooling system, and that the level is correct with the correct type of coolant.

Run the engine and check the oil pressure and water temperature. While the cooling system is being bled, top up with the correct type of coolant.
